School Lunches

At Alderbury & West Grimstead Primary School, we are proud to offer healthy, balanced meals for our pupils each day. School lunches are provided by Clever Chefs, who specialise in freshly prepared, nutritious food for children and cook our meals on site.

Our Menus

Clever Chefs provide a varied menu that changes twice a year, typically after Easter and October half-term. Meals are designed to be healthy, balanced and appealing to children, with a range of options available each day.

Menus are shared with parents and children in advance so that choices can be discussed at home. Children then select their meal during morning registration.

Meal Choices

Each day, children can choose from a selection of options, which may include:

  • A hot main meal
  • A vegetarian option
  • Lighter choices such as baked potatoes or sandwiches

Children are encouraged to try new foods while also choosing meals they enjoy.

Free School Meals

All children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 are entitled to Universal Free School Meals under the government scheme.

From Year 3 onwards, meals are chargeable unless your child qualifies for free school meals.

You may be eligible if you receive certain benefits, including:

  • Income Support
  • Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
  • Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
  • Support under the Immigration and Asylum Act
  • Child Tax Credit (subject to income thresholds)

If you think you may be eligible, please contact the school office for support with your application.

Special Dietary Requirements

Clever Chefs are able to cater for a wide range of dietary needs, including allergies, intolerances and cultural or religious requirements.

If your child has specific dietary needs, parents must complete a Special Diet Request Form so that appropriate arrangements can be made. You can find this in the documents at the bottom of the page.

Packed Lunches

Children are welcome to bring a packed lunch from home as an alternative to school meals. We ask that packed lunches are healthy and nut-free to help keep all children safe.

Supporting Children at Lunchtime

Our staff support children in making healthy choices and encourage good table manners. Younger children are helped to develop independence, including using cutlery and trying a range of foods.
