Vision and Values

Our Vision

At Alderbury & West Grimstead Church of England Primary School, our vision is to provide Foundations for Life, rooted in Christian faith and values, so that every child can flourish.

Our vision is based on the parable of the wise and foolish builders, told by Jesus (Matthew 7:24-27). As a school, we aim to support all of our children in laying good foundations for their lives, especially in the following 4 areas:

  • Learning – We encourage our pupils to be independent, reflective, resourceful, responsive and resilient.

  • Individuals – We encourage our pupils to have freedom of thought and speech, showing respect for themselves and others.

  • Friendship – We encourage our pupils to form a strong and cohesive community, developing positive relationships in school and beyond.

  • Environment – We encourage our pupils to take responsibility for the environment and to look after the earth’s resources.

Guided by the teachings of Jesus, we seek to nurture the whole child — academically, socially, emotionally and spiritually. We are committed to creating a loving, inclusive community where everyone is valued as unique and made in the image of God. Through high expectations, meaningful learning and strong relationships, we enable our children to grow in wisdom, confidence and compassion, prepared for life in all its fullness.

Our vision shapes every aspect of school life, ensuring that children are supported to become thoughtful, responsible citizens who contribute positively to their communities and the wider world.

Our Christian Values

Our Christian values are at the heart of daily life at Alderbury & West Grimstead Church of England Primary School. They shape our relationships, guide our behaviour and help our children understand how to live well together, following the example of Jesus.

Kindness

“I am friendly and caring in my words and actions.”

Kindness is central to how we treat one another at AWGS. Children are encouraged to show compassion, empathy and care in all that they say and do, creating a nurturing and supportive community where everyone feels valued and safe. Through kindness, pupils learn the importance of forgiveness, service and looking after others.

“You must clothe yourselves with compassion and kindness.”
Colossians 3:12

Justice

“I am fair in how I treat other people and stand up for justice whenever I can.”

Justice guides our understanding of fairness, honesty and responsibility. We support children to recognise right from wrong, to treat others equitably and to speak up for those who may need support. Through this value, pupils develop a strong moral compass and an awareness of their role in making a positive difference in the world.

“The LORD has told us what is good. What he requires of us is this: to do what is just, to be loving, and to live in humble fellowship with our God.”
Micah 6:8

Respect

“I treat others how I would like to be treated.”

Respect underpins all relationships within our school community. Children learn to value themselves and others, to listen carefully, celebrate diversity and show consideration in their actions and choices. Respect enables our community to live and learn together in harmony.

“Love your neighbour as you love yourself.”
Matthew 22:39
“Respect everyone.”
1 Peter 2:17

At AWGS, our vision and values ensure that every child is known, valued and loved, and supported to flourish as they grow into confident, compassionate individuals with strong foundations for life.
