Early Years Foundation Stage – Owls Class
Welcome to Owls Class, where your child’s learning journey begins in a warm, nurturing and inspiring environment. At Alderbury and West Grimstead Church of England Primary School, we are committed to giving every child the very best start to their education, rooted in our core values of kindness, respect and justice.
In EYFS, we believe that children learn best through play, exploration and meaningful experiences. Our carefully designed indoor and outdoor environments provide rich opportunities for children to develop curiosity, independence and confidence as they discover the world around them. Through a balance of adult-led activities and child-initiated learning, we support each child to grow socially, emotionally and academically.
Our curriculum follows the Early Years Foundation Stage framework, focusing on the prime areas of communication and language, physical development, and personal, social and emotional development, alongside literacy, mathematics, understanding the world and expressive arts and design. Learning is hands-on, engaging and tailored to children’s interests, ensuring that every child feels valued and motivated to learn.
We place a strong emphasis on building positive relationships and creating a safe, happy environment where children feel secure and confident to take risks in their learning. Through storytelling, phonics, outdoor exploration and creative play, children develop the key skills they need to become enthusiastic, resilient learners.
Our aim is for every child to leave EYFS as a confident, independent individual, fully prepared for the next stage of their education and ready to continue their learning journey with excitement and curiosity.
