Pupil Premium

What is the Pupil Premium?

The Pupil Premium is additional funding provided by the UK Government to help schools improve outcomes for pupils who are disadvantaged or face barriers to learning. It is allocated to schools based on the number of pupils who are:

  • Eligible for Free School Meals now or have been within the last six years (Ever 6 FSM),

  • Looked after by the local authority (including children adopted from care),

  • From service families (Service Pupil Premium).

The aim of the funding is to close the attainment gap between these pupils and their peers, support their wellbeing and access to learning and ensure they achieve their full potential.

How We Use the Funding

We use our Pupil Premium funding to provide targeted support tailored to pupils’ needs. This may include a combination of:

Academic Support

  • Additional small-group or one-to-one teaching

  • Targeted intervention programmes

  • Enhanced reading and maths support

Pastoral and Wellbeing Support

  • Nurture and mentoring programmes

  • Social-emotional learning support

  • Attendance support where needed

Broader Access and Enrichment

  • Subsidised trips, residentials and enrichment activities

  • Support for school uniform and resources

  • Access to technology or learning tools

Our approach is evidence-informed and reviewed regularly to ensure it is effective in improving outcomes for eligible pupils.

Free School Meals and Eligibility

Eligibility for Free School Meals (FSM) determines Pupil Premium entitlement. You can apply for FSM online via Wiltshire Council here.

Even if your child receives universal infant free school meals, you should still apply if you think you might be eligible — it could generate additional funding for the school.
