At Alderbury & West Grimstead CE Primary School, we believe that every child deserves the opportunity to flourish. We are committed to removing barriers to learning and ensuring that disadvantaged pupils are supported to achieve their very best, both academically and personally.

Our approach is rooted in our Christian vision of Foundations for Life. We want our children to develop confidence, resilience, independence and a love of learning, alongside strong foundations in reading, writing and mathematics.

The Pupil Premium is additional funding provided by the Government to support eligible pupils. We use this funding carefully to identify and address barriers that may affect individual children and to ensure that disadvantaged pupils have access to the same high-quality teaching, opportunities and experiences as their peers.

What is Pupil Premium?

Pupil Premium is additional funding allocated to schools to support pupils who are disadvantaged. It is intended to help schools improve educational outcomes and remove barriers to learning.

Pupil Premium funding is allocated according to the number of pupils who are eligible for Free School Meals, have been eligible for Free School Meals within the last six years, are looked after or have left local authority care through adoption or another formal route.

Pupil Premium is not based on ability. Disadvantaged pupils may be high attaining, working at age-related expectations or require additional support. Our aim is to ensure that every disadvantaged pupil is challenged, supported and able to achieve their potential.

Support is personalised. Not every pupil eligible for Pupil Premium will require every aspect of the offer.

Who is eligible for Pupil Premium?

Your child may be eligible for Pupil Premium if they:

• Are eligible for targeted Free School Meals because your household receives Universal Credit and has annual net earned income of £7,400 or less (after tax and excluding benefits).
• Have been eligible for targeted Free School Meals within the last six years (Ever 6).
• Are looked after by a local authority.
• Were previously looked after and have since been adopted or are subject to a Special Guardianship Order or Child Arrangements Order.
• Are eligible for Service Pupil Premium because of a parent's service in the Armed Forces.

Please note: From September 2026, all children in households receiving Universal Credit will be entitled to Free School Meals, regardless of income. However, only children meeting the £7,400 targeted FSM threshold will attract Pupil Premium funding.

If you think your child may be eligible, please speak to the school office. Applications are confidential and there is no stigma attached to asking for support.

Universal Infant Free School Meals

All children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 receive Universal Infant Free School Meals. However, this does not automatically mean that your child is registered for Pupil Premium.

If you think you may be eligible for Free School Meals, please apply. Registering your child can provide additional funding for the school, which we can use to support eligible pupils.
