British Values
British Values are incorporated in our everyday life at AWGS. For some examples, please see below:
Democracy:
School Council elections, Sports Teams, surveys & pupil voice, play buddies & leaders, Worship and Sports councils. Activity choices. Curriculum links to Ancient Greeks/Romans - parliamentary structures and elections in modern day parliament. Discussion and debates. Children regularly vote in classroom life.
Rule of Law:
School & Class rules, school hierarchy, measured response to good and poor behaviour, police and safe communities team visits, e-safety. Bible stories and values e.g. not stealing, not hurting
Individual Liberty:
Language and culture of choice, playtime and lunchtime zones, learning from mistakes, 4 R's. Balance of child-led and adult-directed activities.
Mutual Respect:
Expectations of conduct, manners, 3 core Christian values, (Kindness, Justice, Respect). Our home/school agreement, behaviour policy, peer support, mentoring. Encourage parent visits and sharing of skills, experiences and cultures. Gender equality, access to same clubs and activities. Curriculum linked to suffragettes/votes for women.
Respect of different faiths and beliefs:
Tolerance is not enough. Respond reflectively to national and global events (including NewsDay Tuesday)
Class discussions, agreed syllabus for RE, choice to remove from worship. PSHE, anti-bullying policy, equality statements, celebration of diversity, visitors, trips. Learn about Islam, Hinduism, Judaism, Sikhism, Christianity. Diwali. Celebration of differences and diversity.
