Welcome to Squirrels Class!

In Year One, the children are taught by Mrs Budd. They are also supported by a team of very experienced Learning Support Assistants: Mrs Scott. Mrs Dominy, Mrs Larkham and Mrs Pennington.

We love to challenge ourselves to do better every day. We work hard, try our very best and enjoy learning new things. We love books and we work really hard on our phonics so that we can learn to read and even write our own stories!  We are curious learners, so we love finding out how things work in Maths and Science.

For some lessons, such as Phonics and Maths, we are taught as a Year 1 class, but we also have the opportunity of following the enquiry-based learning with the reception children.

In the first half of the autumn term our enquiries are: ‘All About Me’: ‘Who am I?’ and ‘What do artists do?’ In the second half term we will explore the Enquiry of: ‘What could my hat be made of?’ We also will be performing a nativity and learning about Christmas (Incarnation)

During the spring term we will be look the following enquiries: ‘How does my school change?’ and ‘Where is my school?’ In the second half term we will investigate the enquiry: ‘Who helps us? ‘

In the summer term our enquiries are: ‘How do we move around?’ ‘How can we play in different ways?’  and then ‘What grows near me?’

You can help your Year One child at home by listening to them read every day, practising counting and encouraging writing at every opportunity!
